Triangle Sales and Future Fortunes Award First $22,500 Pay Out to Eligible Horses

 Dec. 20, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oklahoma City, Okla.—Triangle Sales and Future Fortunes recently awarded a $22,500 payout to horses eligible for the John Read Foster Challenge sale incentive. The award was initiated as a special bonus for barrel-bred yearlings that sell in the annual Triangle Barrel Classic, and this year was the first payout for yearlings sold in the 2016 sale.

First and second place sale graduates were awarded after performing in the 2018 Barrel Futurities of America Juvenile Futurity, held in State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Dec. 3-8. The award was determined on a two-run average and graduates competed only against each other for the prize money.

The challenge champion and winner of $15,000 was A Kings Famous Fling (A Streak Of Fling x BCR Stellaluna by Dash Ta Fame), ridden by Janet Staton, owned by Peggy Fenton, Killeen, Texas, and consigned by Morgan McDaniel, M3 Performance Horses LLC, of Uvalde, Texas.

“I wasn’t aware of the incentive initially,” said Staton, who was riding A Kings Famous Fling for owner Peggy Fenton. “When I was told the bonus amount, I was obviously excited. I thought ‘OK, we’re going to win that!’”

“Awarding on the two-run average gives you a more consistent horse. After it was announced, I had people asking me how I won a $15,000 bonus.”

The annual guaranteed purse is sponsored by Triangle Sales, which has featured annual performance horse sales in Shawnee, Okla., for nearly 40 years, along with Future Fortunes, a leading barrel horse stallion incentive program. The two entities established the incentive to provide the barrel industry with a venue for successfully marketing yearlings. The goal for the bonus payment to 3-year-olds has been to help stimulate production by rewarding young prospects.

Reserve champion and recipient of $7,500 was Happy Dayz (Firewaterontherocks x Buckle Up Bunny by Leaving Memories), owned and ridden by Jaylean Neatherlin, Weatherford, Texas, and consigned by Robyn Herring, Huntington, Texas.

Neatherlin was also impressed by the payout and the structure of the incentive.

“It’s a great idea because often in the barrel racing world, if the situation doesn’t involve a lot of money, you typically have less of an opportunity to win money,” Neatherlin said. “Owners and breeders invest [significant] monthly payments to get to a finished horse. Adding incentives at this age helps generate some return for that early investment.”

John Read Foster Challenge eligible horses will be available for purchase in Triangle’s 2019 Fall Sale scheduled for Oct. 25 and 26, 2019, in Shawnee, Okla., at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center. For more information, go to www.trihorse.com.
